Fall leaves hedgehog craft

Golden autumn! We finally waited for it. Our favorite month is delighting us this year with warm days and good sunny weather. Our favorite activity with Margarita now is to go out and collect different leaves. There are so many colors and shapes that it’s impossible to choose the most beautiful ones. That’s why we bring home various leaves, more than we actually need. Making a hedgehog craft from autumn leaves is one of the easiest and favorite fall projects at the daycare. Last time, we made a cute hedgehog using thin and long leaves. Did you see how cool it turned out? This time, we decided to go with maple leaves.

For this activity, we will need:

  • maple leaves;
  • chestnut;
  • cardboard;
  • paper;
  • markers or colored pencils;
  • scissors, glue.

We found a maple tree whose leaves have a vibrant and colorful appearance. They display shades of red, yellow, orange, and green. The color transitions are very beautiful.

We choose three of the most beautiful and large leaves. First of all, we will remove the stems from them.

We will glue them on a regular white A4-sized cardboard. We glue the first leaf, tilting it to the left. The second one – tilting it to the right. And the third one, we place slightly below the first ones in the middle.

We cut out a semicircle from orange cardboard. This will be the animal’s face. We glue it on top and press it firmly. The nose will be a chestnut. It looks great in this craft.

Now let’s draw the eyes and mouth. Margarita chose markers as they are more vibrant. The mouth will be a little arrow shape, and the eyes will be small dots. And let’s add some eyelashes too, making it look like a playful little girl. We’ll use black for everything.

Simple fall leaves hedgehog craft is ready! Over time, the maple leaves may curl slightly, but it only adds to the charm of the artwork. The spiky hairs of the hedgehog look really cute and natural.
