OWL made from chestnuts and acorns

OWL made from chestnuts and acorns

What to make from chestnuts?

Smooth, shiny, and unrealistically tactile chestnuts are an amazing natural material used to create beautiful and lightweight crafts for children’s gardens and schools. The most popular ones are caterpillars and mushrooms. Today, we got a little creative and ended up making a craft of an owl from chestnuts and acorns.

So, for this creative activity we will need:

  • Chestnuts.
  • Acorns’ hats.
  • Branch.
  • Colored paper.
  • Black marker.
  • Scissors, glue.

We will cut the wings, feet, and beak for our bird out of colored paper. Our owls will be fantastic and very bright; we have chosen red, yellow, and green colors for them.

Crafts with acorns

We will even out the acorn caps on the outside with scissors. This is necessary to make it easier to glue them later. Inside, we will draw pupils with a regular black marker. This can also be done with markers or paints.

And that concludes the main preparation. Nothing too complicated, right? Now all that’s left is to assemble the bird and glue together all the necessary parts.

How to Glue Chestnuts Together

As it is known, raw and just fallen fruits do not stick well together. They also do not attach different materials to them very well. What can be done? Very often, plasticine is used when working with children. Adults love the Moment glue. In our case, we chose a glue gun. It reliably bonds all the details together, is non-toxic, and there are a few seconds to adjust some part before the plastic hardens.

Craft project: an owl made from chestnuts and acorns.

Well then, let’s start assembling our little owl. First, we’ll glue the acorn caps onto the chestnut. These will be the eyes. Second, we’ll attach the beak, wings, and legs. We’ll press everything down carefully and make any necessary adjustments. That’s how you make a little owl.
